U.S. and Brazil Will Cooperate on Climate Change

WASHINGTON, DC, May 24, 2004 (ENS) - The United States and Brazil have announced their intention to improve scientific and technological cooperation in order to address global climate change. A joint statement by the two countries released Friday by the State Department says a U.S.-Brazil Workshop on Cooperation in Climate Science and Technology, was "the initial step in identifying joint projects of mutual interest."

Freon Smuggler Jailed for 17 Years

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, May 24, 2004 (ENS) - A Florida man who smuggled the ozone depleting chemical freon from Panama into the United States and failed to pay taxes on sales of the chemical was sentenced Friday to 17 years in prison.

Washington Spends $109 Million to Improve Water Quality

OLYMPIA, Washington, May 24, 2004 (ENS) - Cities with aging wastewater treatment plants, cash strapped volunteer organizations, counties, tribes and other groups working to solve water pollution problems will be offered $109 million this year by the Washington State Department of Ecology to improve and protect water quality.
