Bill to Combat Lead in Drinking Water Before Congress

WASHINGTON, DC, May 6, 2004 (ENS) - New legislation jointly introduced in the U.S. House and Senate would overhaul and strengthen the federal rules governing lead testing and standards in the nation's public water systems. The bills have been written in response to high lead levels in the drinking water systems of Washington D.C and Boston - and to increasing concern that the current system for ensuring the safety of public water supplies is insufficient.

Legal Fund Created for U.S. Park Police Chief

WASHINGTON, DC, May 6, 2004 (ENS) - A legal defense fund has been set up to finance court battles this spring to secure the return of Teresa Chambers as the Chief of the U.S. Park Police. Chambers has been on paid administrative leave and forbidden to work since December 5, 2003 - a few days after she gave an interview to a "Washington Post," reporter in which she spoke of low staffing levels at the National Park Service.
